What does Lionel Messi eat? Everyone wants to know what makes Messi such an incredible soccer player. Everyone wants to know the reason why Messi is so good. The best soccer / football player in the world. Everyone wants to learn how to play like Messi. What’s the secret to Messi’s genius on the soccer field, is is something he eats? First on the list is Argentine barbecue or asado, of course. I’m sure it reminds Messi of home.
There’s a rumor going around that Messi doesn’t eat prior to Barcelona games but only drinks Yerba mate. And that’s why he scores so many goals. Yeah, don’t think it’s true but his teammate Luis Suarez is always drinking mate where ever he goes. In truth, Messi has improved his diet. He used to vomit during soccer matches, but no more. Messi said that cutting out unhealthy drinks and snacks was the real key:
“I don’t know what I ate but I ate badly for many years,” Messi admitted to America TV’s La Cornisa. “At 22, 23… [it was] chocolate, alfajores [South American filled biscuits], fizzy drinks. Now I eat well: fish, meat, vegetables, salads. Everything is organized and taken care of. Sometimes a bit of wine, but that’s not a problem. I really noticed the change when it came to vomiting. They said it could be a lot of things, eventually I changed and it didn’t happen any more.”
The Lionel Messi Story
We all know Messi moved from Newell’s Old Boys’s in Argentina to Barcelona so he could receive the growth hormone shots that were too expensive for his family to pay for. But was their some comic book character like side effect from those shots we don’t know about? Perhaps a side effect that enabled him to dribble in a zig zag pattern at high speeds without losing the ball…Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger called him the ‘play station’, but maybe he should have coined a new comic book character name for Messi.
Actually, Messi already has one. He’s called the Atomic Flea, as though he grew up near some nuclear reactor and toxic waste seeped into his food and, instead of detrimental side effects, they enabled him to dribble like nobody else in the world.
Some say Messi snacked on Arsenal in the Champions League this past season, and a lot of other teams. But what does he really like to eat?
Most soccer players are known to eat a lot of chicken and pasta as a standard per-game meal, but Messi, it’s been said, he likes soup. Yes, hot soup prior to each match. No, actually he likes Spanish tapas, especially those little sandwiches with fish in them. No, in truth, he’s hooked on pistachios. Just look at the image below. That is only if he’s not playing though.
What does he eat prior to games? Some have said he eats spinach, but that’s another character. Not sure what to believe. We reached out to a few people across the web and have gotten some good answers so far. The top one, gummy worms.Argentine barbecue or asado.Gummy worms.Cotton candy.Ronaldo’s dust!Rice and beans.Pizza.More Cotton candy.Green eggs and ham.Dani Alves cooks him up the best pasta in the world. He don’t eat; look how skinny he is.Chewing gum.Steak for breakfast, steak for lunch, steak for dinner (from a special type of cattle that Barcelona ships from Argentina special for him).Piles of spaghetti.I’m not sure exactly but most footballers eat bananas or pasta.Hamburgers.His coach, Pep Guardiola, feeds him from milk from a bottle.String cheese of course.Large bowls of Lucky Charms.Soup.Does Messi really drink Herbalife shakes in real life? I hope not….
In all seriousness, I’m sure Messi is eating a lot of good Argentine barbecue and plenty of fruits and vegetables. And be sure to check out our fitness and nutrition guide.
Messi Loves Cookies
Not sure if this is true or not, but legend has it that when he was a young kid, Messi loved cookies and was rewarded with cookies if he scored a goal. Wow. That’s a lot of cookies….
