Courthouse Steps Quilt Block

Hey Everyone, welcome again to Stash Blasting Wednesday.

A couple of weeks in the past I began this collection on the log cabin block and it’s permutations. The first block was easy methods to make a basic log cabin block and today is the best way to make a courthouse steps block. I made some other Three blocks and put them in combination. This is one of the layouts I came up with.

4 fundamental log cabin blocks put in combination

The difference between those two blocks is that the basic log cabin is constructed going across the centre of the block while this block is constructed from most sensible and backside and aspect by means of aspect of the centre with the two different colors. Once once more I'm the use of a complementary colour scheme. This time one in all my favourites, blue and orange.

The block is 12 inches finished.

I determined to use 3 fabrics from every colour with black within the centre. From each colour I chose a light, medium and darkish valued material.

Cutting Instructions

Piece A – cut 2 – 2″ x 12 ½″ rectangles from the darkish orange material

Piece B – cut 4 – 2″ x Nine ½″  rectangles – 2 from the medium orange and 2 from the dark blue fabrics

Piece C – reduce 4 – 2″ x 6 ½″  rectangles –  2 from the light orange and a couple of from the medium blue materials

Piece D – lower 2 – 2″ x 3 ½″  rectangles from the sunshine blue material

Piece E – lower 1 – Three ½″  sq. from the black cloth

Pieces lower and ready to stitch

Block Layout

Layout the pieces within the block as in line with the image above. Each piece is labelled with its corresponding letter.

Pieces lettered.

Building the Block

All seams are a ¼″ and all seams are pressed towards the piece just sewn onto the block. Make positive to press with a dry iron in order not to warp the pieces.

1. Sew piece D (light blue) to the highest and bottom of piece E (black).

2. Sew piece C (mild orange) to every facet of the unit from step 1.

I made four of the blocks and put them into a couple of different configurations.

I in reality like the colors. It is just too bad that this is all I have of many of the materials since I took them from the scrap bin. I believe I may be able to in finding every other oranges and blues in my stash to make some extra – the same but other.

See you next week – yes that’s right I've determined to deliver Stash Blasting Wednesdays back weekly as I actually want to expend the scraps and stash.
